Sean and I saw the Hobbit part 2 today. It was amazing. It made me remember more than Lord of the Rings or even part 1, why i fell in love with the fantasy genre. Why tales of elves and dwarves would be part of my life. What an orc should be and that one good elf could take down a dozen or more of them.

The appearance of the wood elves was amazing. The wood elves became the real elves to me at 13 when I read the Hobbit. That would be in 1976. I had been a comic book fan since birth or close enough. High Fantasy started appearing side by side with my Super Hero comics in the early 70s. Conan from Marvel being the big one. But that did not click with me. It would not be until the not click until I read Tolkein. Then it clicked in a big way. It led me to the D&D and the SCA. This movie took me back to those moments. Smaug would do the same thing. When they ended the movie with Smaug going to burn down the city, I remembered that moment in the book like I had first read it. Bilbo was such a likeable character. Gandalf was a mystery. The dwarves were very human. And the elves were amazing. Today for 2.5 hours I lived it again. Right next to my son. It was a great movie.

I think it was my least favorite. It was okay but it was missing something for me.
